I think Camille has some of this in her two--I think every character Garbo played had some, as it was some integral in her overall DNA.Kimberly J.M. I found a box set of her works and really´, whenever she is gaunt and haughty (Anna Karenina, Queen Kristina, Anna Christie) she is superb. And then we get Gilbert in addition, what a bonus.
They actually got a surprising number of facts right. Kristina founded a knighthood based around Antonio and the credence was "Never to get married". She did spend an awful lot of time around him and it is very likely he was instrumental in her conversion.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8672005424133365490.post-33906727730311118262010-10-21T12:08:02.854-04:002010-10-21T12:08:02.854-04:00Becky, the whole androgenous aspect was pure Holly...Becky, the whole androgenous aspect was pure Hollywood "la-la" disbelief--though her haircut and choice of attire for that period might have caused one to pause. I always found it hard to accept that anyone would think the face of Garbo could be anything but a woman's, but then suspension of disbelief is essential to any movie. She was good in this movie, really good, and I had forgotten that I liked it so much. Her joy and sensuality with John Gilbert was almost palpable in its portrayal. You are right -- if the code had been up and running, much of the movie would never have gotten through! Good thing for us that it slipped in before the big shut-down in 1934. I did not know that Olivier had been considered. I must say he would probably have been marvelous, but I like John Gilbert and I'm glad he had that chance. Thanks for a very entertaining post!ClassicBeckyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03591715859057540467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8672005424133365490.post-74544674942095575382010-10-20T22:56:30.822-04:002010-10-20T22:56:30.822-04:00Thanks, Dawn, I'm glad to be back! John Gilbert and Greta Garbo had wonderful on screen chemistry. My favorite scene in the movie, is when she is enjoying herself as a woman.Dawnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03476174860119487509noreply@blogger.com
