This film is an exercise in claustrophobia and it is very effective. <br />I read the book before I saw the film and I have rarely found an adaption as precise as this one. Not only is it gripping and masterfully done, all of it (ALL of it) is post-production ADR and foley work. Due to restrictions in the size of the U-boat sets, the whole film was recorded silent, and virtually all of the audio was added afterwards.
