I knew Gregory was a mean bastard so I missed that uncertainty. Still the suspense element worked perfectly and I enjoyed this film very much.
The ambience of the film is a real winner.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8672005424133365490.post-67793199982664012822013-06-23T23:33:02.507-04:002013-06-23T23:33:02.507-04:00Thanks, FC. Everyone is wonderful in this film, but I think if anyone questions Boyer's appeal, this is a good place to validate his stardom (Powla - where eeez ze brooch?)FlickChickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17351624749230610755noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8672005424133365490.post-41785110008331955932013-06-23T00:06:54.931-04:002013-06-23T00:06:54.931-04:00She does dominate the film, but I think her intera...She does dominate the film, but I think her interactions with the other cast members enhance her performance.Kimberly J.M. If anything it is the brilliance of her role that proves how perfectly the other actors have performed as well. It would have been easy for Boyer, Landsbury, Cotten or even Whitty to have been more noticeable than they were, if not for Bergman and her never ending screen perfection.Lasso The Movieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03221402578681699727noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8672005424133365490.post-15976014226312514702013-06-22T11:01:59.150-04:002013-06-22T11:01:59.150-04:00Dawn, this is one of Bergman's all-time best p...Dawn, this is one of Bergman's all-time best performances (I put it up there with Notorious and Spellbound), but for some reason it seems to get overlooked. It must be the popularity of Casablanca.Kimberly J.M. LOL

Yet, I can see why seeing him in this first would taint your viewings of him in subsequent films. He was the worst kind of evil--polite and debonair. Kimberly J.M. Bergman performs her character's emotions so perfectly you feel her pain. Charles Boyer is pure evil in this film. One of the best scenes was at the reception, when Gregory tells Paula he lost his watch and then finds it in her purse.

I would also give this film 3 stars.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09421976438809816553noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8672005424133365490.post-9184665845275836482013-06-22T09:18:26.327-04:002013-06-22T09:18:26.327-04:00This film was my introduction to Charles Boyer, an...This film was my introduction to Charles Boyer, and what I discovered is that he had played the part of a murderous husband so well that it took me about 3 years to get over it! Yes, I'm serious! A few months after watching this, I caught "Love Affair" for the first time, and there was no way I could see him as a romantic lead. He was still a murderous, insanity-driving husband in my mind. By the time I caught "All This and Heaven Too," I guess enough time had elapsed, because I enjoyed him in that.

This film was also my first exposure to Joseph Cotten. I had never heard of him prior to seeing this.

Patti https://www.blogger.com/profile/12931836399684850729noreply@blogger.com
