Still, it's a brilliant movie and a highlight of the '70s. I don't suppose anything could have taken the best picture Oscar away from Rocky in 1976, but I still think Network would have been a better choice.Jim Lanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00981196894914646656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8672005424133365490.post-39941663948536462742012-09-10T00:27:46.529-04:002012-09-10T00:27:46.529-04:00Yep, Dunaway is the soul-less center. I also.. can't recommend watching the film, 'Network' high enough. This is a wonderfully made film of the 70's, that shows how cutthroat TV broadcasting became.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09421976438809816553noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8672005424133365490.post-4477486243591410382012-09-07T04:38:57.592-04:002012-09-07T04:38:57.592-04:00You definitely had a unique perspective when you f...You definitely had a unique perspective when you first saw this. They interviewed Lumet not long before his death to see what he thought about how right Network was about the direction of TV--he said he was amazed that it all had come true except the on-air assassination, and that that may be next. At the time, I was new to the broadcasting business - radio, then - and nearly fell out of my theater seat laughing at the hilarious truth of it (anything for ratings/money). However, I did not imagine that what then seemed outrageous satire would turn out to be prophecy. One of the very best films of the '70s. Pure genius. With great women's roles for Faye Dunaway and Beatrice Straight - and the star turns by Peter Finch, Robert Duvall and Ned Beatty are brilliant. Just a few years after it came out we elected an actor President - one who used to refer to outfitting soldiers as getting them "into costume", then we had The Running Man about outrageous reality game shows taking over a nation, then we got into the 90s and things started coming true.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.com
