The ending third was weaker than what preceded it. I liked the 3 or 4 times when the music crescendoed and the screen when black for a few seconds before returning to the same point in the scene, although I'm wondering if these pauses were used for foreshadowing or some bigger purpose in terms of Binoche's character's choices, which I totally missed (only after the 3rd time it was used i started to realize it was happening with Binoche's character at certain points in the story).

I wasn't enamored with the famous composer/unfinished major work storyline, though I suppose the composer angle gave them an excuse to put a lot of orchestral music in the score. The use of blue in the movie was cool too, though I don't think I've mastered the art of looking at a movie that use things like color creatively and "getting it"/"noting it" at the time; i only seem to find that out the director's true intentions after checking IMDb or seeing a more seasoned reviewer allude to it - a little frustrating.Bobbynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8672005424133365490.post-41183383655421728582014-06-28T15:14:30.660-04:002014-06-28T15:14:30.660-04:00Well, we do agree that it is a beautiful film to l...Well, we do agree that it is a beautiful film to look at and that the music is great--that's something. There are moments in this of staggering beauty--the shift to a blue palette and the orchestral hits never fail to make me gasp a little when they happen.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.com
